Did you know…
Darwin on the wall. Preus Museum was established in 1995 and is Norway's national photo museum. This is a gem of a museum. In addition to the technical sides to photography, the museum has several impressive collections by famous photographers, including Julia Margaret Cameron's pictures of Charles Darwin.
With a right to thrill. The golden gun is at display in the Local History Center in Horten. This is, however, not the gun from the James Bond movie The man with golden gun. The gun belongs to former stortingspresident and Minister of Defense Jørgen Kosmo, who received the gun as a gift during a visit to Turkey in 1993.

Here you will also find St. Olavsbrønnen, which was one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Eastern Norway during catholic times. The myth surrounded the well survived well into the 19th century.

Marinemuseet is located on Karljohansvern i Horten. It’s been here since 1864 which makes it one of the oldest naval museums in the world. The museum covers an impressive 2000 square meters and offers a glimpse into the heyday of the Danish-Norwegian navy, the gunboat war from 1807 until 1814, the establishment of a Norwegian navy after 1814… and a lot more.

Hotell Sjømilitære Samfund
When the navy's main base was moved to Bergen around 1960, civilians were granted the opportunity to rent the property for parties, meetings and accommodation. In 2017, the side building "Carl Johan" became part of the facility. Things change, but the history is very well preserved.
